A speck

I am falling,
Every step of the way,
there is no one to help me up, I hear a hand trying to help me,
I glide away into the darkness hoping that, finally i might be alone.
All I ever wanted was a smile, a pat on my back or a slight nod, All I ever got was disappointment.
Lonely as a speck in the air i float, hoping the wind will take me to a place where there is colours and happiness.
I wait. I wait some more..soon I tell myself, soon I'll be there.
Where no one blames, no one fights, no bloodshed no hiding in plain sight,
the thought makes me happy, i think of what i can do, what i can be..the possibilities amaze me!
My imagination runs wild.
The wind stops this is it i think, this is it.
I look around, i look in anticipation, i look closely.
No colour. It is black and white and a lighter shade of black that I do not understand.
This world is worse than my dark corner..
What have I done, help!, help! pain, unbearable pain, pain from being singled out, being differentiated, pain from the anger, pain from the guilt..
I've earned this , i say, its because i walked away..its because i refused to accept the helping hand
It is because I wished to be alone!

A public spectacle: Swayamvar

I was surfing through channels an hour ago, avoiding my mother from watching 'Swayamvar, Season 3'. Unfortunately for me the planets had lined up, for me to watch that hideous display of "love?!" What began with three men, in traditional wedding attire, entering raring to go home with a wife, ended with "Sagaai ho gayi, badhaiyan ji badhaiyan!!
My problem isn't so much that they call it a swayamvar and then don't get married but it being made an open for all drama. Swayamvar's or Swayamvara's have been an ancient practice. Swayam in Sanskrit means self and vara means choice or desire (which is also synonymous with bride-groom). Draupadi, Sita, Damayanti all have chosen husbands through this practice, and good one's, might I add :P.
Somehow, NDTV Imagine managed to take the worst, most dramatic aspects of the practice and make Swayamvar season 3. I haven't watched season 1 or 2, but with the bride being Rakhi Sawant (1) and the groom being a relatively screwed up guy, Rahul Mahajan (2), I can take the liberty to say they might have been equally bad, if not more.
And this show is inspired by one of the most watched reality shows in the USA, the Bachelor, Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad series. Season 15's finale with Brad Womack garnered 10.9 million viewers and a 7.0 rating/11. Not that I like watching the Bachelor, but there is just something so unnerving about the Indian version that sends chills down my spine, which even Aahat (a horror show) didn't manage.
Staging a Swayamvara was always seen as a show of power of the father of the bride/groom. Here that girls father I'm sure, didn't even have a say.
I know there will be a Season 4, heck if Bigg Boss can go on so can this 'wedding saga.' All I have to say is, maintain some dignity people, I mean, after you leave, like it or not you have to spend your life with that man/woman with you.

Sambar Puri

I had some leftover Sambhar from yesterday..My brother and me are really finicky about what we like to much on at tea time..So I made Sambhar Puri's
Ingredients:
1 katori (tea cup) Sambhar
1 cup maida
4-5 tbsp Corn (ground coarsely)
2 tbsp onion paste
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1 finely chopped green chilly
1 tsp amchur powder
1 tsp ajwain
oil to fry
Salt to taste

Method:
Mix the Sambhar and the maida to make a fluffy dough.
Add the remaining ingredients one by one.
Simultaneously heat the oil to a reasonable temperature (see that it isn't too hot or the puri's will burn)
I can't use a rolling pin to make round puri's, if you can good for you.. I just use a katori to cut the puris..
Fry them till slightly crispy. (they become light brownish)
Serve HOT!! with ketchup or chutney.. or just plain is gr8 too

Washington!!

I wrote this to a friend a couple of weeks ago when she told me she was going to the United States for the first time.
First off, let me tell you how lucky you are to get a chance to travel to a historic city like Washington DC. Two things you should do before you go there;
1. Watch 'Night at the museum 2'
2. Read Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol'
Let me explain why.
There are very few cities in the world that have a mysterious aura, and Washington DC is one of them. It would be foolish of me to suggest to you to go see the Capitol Building or the Civil War memorial, the Georgetown University or the Smithsonian because even though this is Washington there is so much more the capital of the United States has to offer. For eg: Go experience the beauty of nature at the National Cherry Blossom festival, and believe you me you won't be disappointed
So here's hoping that you go discover Washington. All the best and you will need it because you don't know what the next turn around the corner in Washington has in store for you!

Mad-o-wot

Surprise, surprise!!!! I got a haircut, after almost a year i thought it was long overdue and where did I go...the best ofcourse! Sapna Bhavnani's Mad-o Wot. And boy did they pimp me up! I love my bangs and I got a free tick tack...It's pink!
So, the crew at the Bandra outlet is just plain sweet! Ask for Giselle or Genine i'm not sure but she's bald! I know it is an irony, but nonetheless, she did a great job, explaining every step to me. And Voila!
It cost me just 660 Rs. but what the heck it was totally worth it. From the warm hair wash to the pretty tick tack and finally the fruity smell my hair now has Mad-o-Wat is totally worth every penny.

Go give it a try guys! Believe you me, coming from someone who is totally conscious of her hair, that place is worth all the hoopla! Kudos Sapna Bhavnani your superhero power is getting rid of bad hairdo's one haircut at a time!!

A bright sunny afternoon it is! It's been raining heavily in Mumbai, pouring elephants and rhino's. A little rainless afternoon is all I need to sit back and unwind. So the paper's tell me that a ship almost rammed into the Bandra Worli sea link. Mumbai's 'It' thing as my little brother likes to call it. What a disaster that would have been! The Reddy wedding took place and Sharukh danced on Sallu's songs..Like we care! As usual the tabloids offer trash!
On a heavier note (literally) I have no inclination to walk myself to the gym. Three days since I've gone there, the musty, sweaty treadmill must miss me I think. As usual boredom beckons me and I am still as confusion stricken as I was when I started writing this post about a minute ago!
Toodles!

On a lighter note!

Angry Birds! It is an addiction I tried getting rid of, but just could not. Wow what a concept, what graphics and what execution. Although I wish for addicts like me there were more levels three is a tad bit too little. The colours used for the birds somehow juxtapose their 'powers'. The pigs are so uncontrollably desperate to laugh at the shooting birds! What is even more interesting is the background score, it is extremely catchy, and already my ringtone. Don't ask me how ( it was a pain in the behind to find it). Overall a 10.5 on 10 for the game. The point 5 just because every time I'm down in the dumps it has an uncanny way of making me smile! :)
