Sambar Puri

I had some leftover Sambhar from yesterday..My brother and me are really finicky about what we like to much on at tea time..So I made Sambhar Puri's
Ingredients:
1 katori (tea cup) Sambhar
1 cup maida
4-5 tbsp Corn (ground coarsely)
2 tbsp onion paste
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1 finely chopped green chilly
1 tsp amchur powder
1 tsp ajwain
oil to fry
Salt to taste

Method:
Mix the Sambhar and the maida to make a fluffy dough.
Add the remaining ingredients one by one.
Simultaneously heat the oil to a reasonable temperature (see that it isn't too hot or the puri's will burn)
I can't use a rolling pin to make round puri's, if you can good for you.. I just use a katori to cut the puris..
Fry them till slightly crispy. (they become light brownish)
Serve HOT!! with ketchup or chutney.. or just plain is gr8 too

Washington!!

I wrote this to a friend a couple of weeks ago when she told me she was going to the United States for the first time.
First off, let me tell you how lucky you are to get a chance to travel to a historic city like Washington DC. Two things you should do before you go there;
1. Watch 'Night at the museum 2'
2. Read Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol'
Let me explain why.
There are very few cities in the world that have a mysterious aura, and Washington DC is one of them. It would be foolish of me to suggest to you to go see the Capitol Building or the Civil War memorial, the Georgetown University or the Smithsonian because even though this is Washington there is so much more the capital of the United States has to offer. For eg: Go experience the beauty of nature at the National Cherry Blossom festival, and believe you me you won't be disappointed
So here's hoping that you go discover Washington. All the best and you will need it because you don't know what the next turn around the corner in Washington has in store for you!

Mad-o-wot

Surprise, surprise!!!! I got a haircut, after almost a year i thought it was long overdue and where did I go...the best ofcourse! Sapna Bhavnani's Mad-o Wot. And boy did they pimp me up! I love my bangs and I got a free tick tack...It's pink!
So, the crew at the Bandra outlet is just plain sweet! Ask for Giselle or Genine i'm not sure but she's bald! I know it is an irony, but nonetheless, she did a great job, explaining every step to me. And Voila!
It cost me just 660 Rs. but what the heck it was totally worth it. From the warm hair wash to the pretty tick tack and finally the fruity smell my hair now has Mad-o-Wat is totally worth every penny.

Go give it a try guys! Believe you me, coming from someone who is totally conscious of her hair, that place is worth all the hoopla! Kudos Sapna Bhavnani your superhero power is getting rid of bad hairdo's one haircut at a time!!

A bright sunny afternoon it is! It's been raining heavily in Mumbai, pouring elephants and rhino's. A little rainless afternoon is all I need to sit back and unwind. So the paper's tell me that a ship almost rammed into the Bandra Worli sea link. Mumbai's 'It' thing as my little brother likes to call it. What a disaster that would have been! The Reddy wedding took place and Sharukh danced on Sallu's songs..Like we care! As usual the tabloids offer trash!
On a heavier note (literally) I have no inclination to walk myself to the gym. Three days since I've gone there, the musty, sweaty treadmill must miss me I think. As usual boredom beckons me and I am still as confusion stricken as I was when I started writing this post about a minute ago!
Toodles!

On a lighter note!

Angry Birds! It is an addiction I tried getting rid of, but just could not. Wow what a concept, what graphics and what execution. Although I wish for addicts like me there were more levels three is a tad bit too little. The colours used for the birds somehow juxtapose their 'powers'. The pigs are so uncontrollably desperate to laugh at the shooting birds! What is even more interesting is the background score, it is extremely catchy, and already my ringtone. Don't ask me how ( it was a pain in the behind to find it). Overall a 10.5 on 10 for the game. The point 5 just because every time I'm down in the dumps it has an uncanny way of making me smile! :)

J.Dey...a wake up call?

It is the 185th time a journalist was attacked in the process of the unearthing of a 'story'. Not a number any one from this fraternity or any Indian would be proud of. When J.Dey a senior journalist covering crime, an authority on the mafia during the 'D' days and someone who simply wanted to uncover facts was shot 7 times in broad daylight it not only shook the media but sent a shiver through many spines. Arup Patnaik, Commissioner condemned the attack, saying it was the work of a professional. But is that what we wanted to know? Absolutely not.
They say the press enjoys freedom in India and we are proud of that, but it is such incidents that question the core of journalism in a 'democratic' country like ours.
They say Dey kept people guessing about the route he would take for reaching from A to B, few knew where he stayed, his family was not a topic of discussion, all in all an extremely careful person.
It is sad that someone with such a great work ethic met such a tragic end. Let's hope that not only is this a waking call for authorities but a resounding cry to the journalistic fraternity to continue with the legacy J. Dey left us.

Some more from Wardha...

Pictures I took on my deprivation trip in Wardha

Listen!

Listen!
I don't listen.
I never have.
It's an irony though because whatever I have managed to learn, is by listening.
I listened to my loved one's say I was worthless,
I listened to my teachers say I was just average
and I listened to my "friends" say I wasn't their best choice.
I just wish I'd listened to them, I wouldn't be in the place I was today.
I won't give up. I'll try I'll keep trying till I get what I want, till I reach where it is I want to reach, till I stop them from saying what it is that they want to say.
I know what I want and I know how much I want it. I'll try

Hiatus..

Back after finishing my post graduation, grown an inch taller and hopefully a little smarter too. It took me time to understand the importance of a lot of things, aka family, friends and finally solitude. I am going to start writing again, and this time around I think I'll try to make sense to myself...Isn't that the most important thing?
